RCE Barcelona is an initiative coordinated by the Centre for Sustainability (CITIES) of the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC).
The founding organisations are:
Technical Univeristy of Catalonia (UPC), a leading technological university recognised for its contribution to sustainability in teaching, research, innovation and social interaction.
EDUSOST.cat network (EDUSOST), a network working on research activities in education for sustainable development promoted by Catalan universities.
Engineers without Borders (ESF), a development NGO with a technological education programme destined to human development in the South.
Fundación Ecología y Desarrollo (ECODES), NGO with a mission to promote sustainable development in Spain and Latin America, in collaboration with many organisations in the public sector, private sector and other civil society organisations.
Barcelona City Council (AjBCN), a través del programa d’Agenda 21.
Barcelona Regional Government (DipBCN), the provincial government of the region which has an active network of local councils working towards sustainability and a digital magazine www.sostenible.es
Environment and Housing department of the Catalunya Government (GenCat), through its active environmental education department.
RCE Barcelona has an executive board (made up of representatives from the 8 founding member organisations) to approve and evaluate activities, and support fundraising. The team is made up of Didac Ferrer, the Director of the Centre for Sustainability (CITIES), Heloise Buckland, coordinator of RCE Barcelona, Nuria Besora, researcher and sub-editor of the magazine Education and Sustainability as well as a series of collaborators who work on individual projects.

Other organisations collaborating with RCE Barcelona are: Eco-Union, El Tinter, Fundació Futur, UnescoCat, Federació Catalana d'ONGD, Fundació Prevenció de Residus i Consum Responsable, Associació Barrinar and Barcelonya SCCL.
RCE Barcelona invites organizations of all types to participate in the network to promote education for sustainability in their activities and connect to the global network RCE.

Members responsibilities
RCE Barcelona members commit to participating in at least one of the activities listed below and communicating their experience through the RCE Barcelona website.
Education and training: Promote the training of people with a capacity for leadership for sustainability by participating in or more of the following:
- International sustainable organisations seminar (4-8 Februrary 2008)
- Annual International RCE meeting (2-4 July 2008)
- Fifth edition of international EMSU conference series (15-17 October)
Innovation and research: Inspire innovative practice and creative pedagogy in Education for Sustainable Development.
- Participation in a research or training initiative promoted by one or more of RCE Barcelona members
- Participation in an education or research initiative with another RCE in the global network
- Propose a new research activity to promote innovation in Education for Sustainability
Dialogue on Education and Sustainability: Facilitate the connection of different types of organisation in learning for sustainability and disseminate inspiring examples.
- Contribute to the magazine Education and Sustainability (articles, artwork, initiatives, learning resources etc.)
- Collaborate in the distribution and promotion of the magazine to educational centres and informal learning organisations
Annual membership contribution
RCE Barcelona is a non-profit making initiative which relies on the contributions of members to finance its activities. Your organisation will become a member of RCE Barcelona for 12 months following the payment of an annual donation of the following amount:
